About Daisen City

大仙市について

Daisen City lies near the center of Akita Prefecture, bordered by the Ou Mountains to the east and the Dewa Mountains to the west.
Spanning about 30 km east to west and 50 km north to south, the city is larger than Tokyo's 23 wards, where rich nature and everyday life exist side by side. Across the broad Senboku Plain, rural landscapes stretch out, nurturing a rich food culture in one of Japan's leading rice-growing regions.

At night, the endlessly high, open sky is filled with light that seems too vast to take in at once.
Beginning with the summer Omagari Fireworks Festival, fireworks are launched almost every month across the city together with seasonal events and local festivals, making Daisen a city where fireworks culture lives all year round.

Winters are deeply snowy, and many traditional events are concentrated in this season.
Tug-of-war events involving entire communities, purification rituals called “Bonden,” fire festivals, and other rites remain rooted in local culture across the city.

Hot spring areas are also dotted throughout the city, where you can soak at leisure and savor the afterglow of your journey after enjoying fireworks and nature.

Fireworks too wide to fit in your view, the Ou Mountains where primeval nature remains, buildings and events that carry the culture and history of Tohoku. Daisen may not be a flashy tourist destination, but the more slowly you walk, the more its charms reveal themselves.

Daisen City Specialties

大仙市の特産品

Daisen City is one of Japan's leading rice-growing regions, with vast rural landscapes stretching across the area.
Blessed with a climate suited to rice cultivation, clear water, and fertile soil, Daisen produces brand-name rice such as Akitakomachi and Sakihokore. The sake brewed by six local breweries is also possible because of this high-quality rice and water, making it one of Daisen's signature specialties.

The traditional food “iburigakko,” born from life in snowy winters, is also well known. Once made in each household, this smoked takuan pickle is now loved as one of Akita's representative specialties.

Other local products include Tochuton pork, honey, sausages, all-purpose seasonings, and more. Products from Daisen City are available through online stores and also as return gifts for hometown tax donations.
