Karamatsu Shrine, enshrining a deity of safe childbirth and fertility

A shrine long cherished as a deity of safe childbirth and prayers for children.
The approach lined with cedar trees said to be over 300 years old is truly impressive.
Within the grounds is Amatsu Himiya, said to be where the Akita Mononobe clan enshrined the gods of heaven and earth.
As you walk deeper into the grounds, there is a set of steps leading down to the main hall. This unusual layout is rare even by national standards.
Nearby is “Mahoroba Karamatsu,” a recreation of a medieval fortified residence, and within its grounds stands the only Noh stage in Akita Prefecture. Regular Noh performances are held on the stage.
