A variety of Edohigan cherry that grows wild in the mountains, with drooping branches.
Edohigan is a long-lived tree species, but giant trees with a trunk circumference of over 5 m at breast height are extremely rare, and this one is said to be the oldest famous tree in Akita Prefecture.
It was designated a Natural Monument of Akita Prefecture on October 5, 1947.
